Owner Operator Policy

THE OWNER/OPERATOR POLICY - Another reason to carry Un-insured Motorist/Under-insured Motorist ("UM/UIM") and medpay!

Just when you thought you'd heard it all . . .and just in case you needed one more reason to seriously consider carrying your own auto insurance protection (un-insured/underinsured motorist ("UM/UIM"), medpay, comp/collision, rental), there's an insurance policy that more and more drivers out there are using, which, even if they cause the accident, could leave you high and dry, without personal injury recovery options: THE OWNER/OPERATOR ONLY policy: first, meaning that if you're hit by a driver who's NOT the actual OWNER of that vehicle (or otherwise named on the owner's policy), the insurance covering that vehicle will NOT cover your injuries - simple as that. Second, if you happen to be hit while driving a car covered by an owner/operator policy, even if that policy had medpay and UM/UIM that could have helped you, you will NOT be covered by that car's medpay or UM/UIM coverage - because you are not the owner/operator. In other words, if you don't have your own auto insurance personal coverage (medpay, UM/UIM) that covers you even while driving another person's car, you're stuck paying your own medical bills and other injury-related costs out-of-pocket (unless you sue the other driver in court, and they actually have money to pay your damages out of their own pocket - not something to count on). That's not fair! There are so many things you can't control once you've been in an auto accident - including the insurance coverage of the person that hit you. But having your own UM/UIM and medpay coverage can make all the difference, and IS something you CAN control!
